Fifty years in a nut shell...Joanna Holcomb graduated from SFA in May 1961. Attended SWT in San Marcus and studied Art. Married Howard L. Holcomb in August 1964. Lived in Okla. from 1964-66. One child, Scott, born in January of 1970 in Dallas.. Moved out of Texas to Chicago in 1973. Taught art classes in own studio to adults(oil on canvas) while living in Chicago. Moved to Northern Virginia in December of 1984. Live south of Washington D. C. Scott married and we have two granddaughter; Lola, 11, and Minnie age 9. Begin a live long journey into Historical Preservation. Became an expert in Open Hearth Cooking. Trained employees at Mount Vernon, home of George Washington, Gunston Hall, home of George Mason(father of the Bill of Rights), Woodlawn, home of Nelly Curtis Lewis, granddaughter of George Washington, Montpellier, home of Thomas Jefferson, Miches Tavern, (one of the oldest way side taverns in Colonial America), Montpellier, home of Dolly and James Madison. and Rippon Lodge, oldest dwelling in Virginia. I am a quitter and belong to a quilt guild at Woodlawn Plantation. Our group makes quilts to sale to support the house. Our group has raised $650.000.00 and given it to benefit the Endowment Fund. This is the work I do. For pleasure Howard and I travel. He retired from Mobil Oil in February, 1996. We have visited Russia, all the Baltic Countries, France, Germany, Egypt, Turkey, Greece, China, Alaska, Canada, South America, Mexico, Panama, and most of the states in the USA. We love to cruise and have sail the entire Caribbean many times. We hope to see many more wonderful areas of our world in the coming future. Italy is next on our list coming up in the fall of 2012. Sorry I cannot be with our class in April, but I send a hello to all.
