On Thursday, January 30th, John Medina, loving husband, father and grandfather passed away at the age of 77. John was born on February 5, 1942, in Wheelock, Texas to Fernando and Alvina (Hernandez) Medina. At a young age, his family moved to Bryan. He attended school and graduated from SFA. John served active duty with the National Guard from October 1961, until September 1962. On July 19, 1963, he married Gloria Lopez. In November of 1971, their son Michael was born. He continued serving in the Army Reserve for several years after that. After a short time delivering milk, he went to work at Sears for the next 45 years. After retiring, and wanting to stay busy, he went to work at St Joseph school for the next 7 years.
John always liked to be outside and liked to build things such as birdhouses, wooden planes and model cars. He enjoyed watching the Texas Aggies and Dallas Cowboys football teams.
John's happiness was derived from being around his family and friends. He had a special gift where everyone felt loved and supported when in his presence.
John is proceeded in death by his father Fernando, mother Alvina and brother Raymond. He leaves behind his wife Gloria, son Michael, daughter-in-law Pauline, grandchildren Chase Dunn (fiancé Laura) and Brittany Keogh (husband Sean) nieces Janice Galindo, Anna Laxson, Audrey Reed, Victoria Hernandez and Deborah Malpica, nephews Jerry Lopez, Steve Gongora, Jonathon Medina, Francisco Hernandez and too many God children to name.
A rosary will be held at 10 am on Monday, February 3, 2020, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 507 E. 26th St, Bryan, Tx 77083. With a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11 am, then graveside and reception at 1 pm at the PAC behind the church.
