Dorothy Marie Paholek Janner passed away on Jan. 31, 2013, at the age of 69 after a 13-year battle with cancer.
She is survived by her husband, Alvin Janner of College Station; son Jay Janner and his wife Kari Janner, as well as their children Shelby, Katie and Sam Janner, all of Austin; daughter Susan Janner and granddaughter Elizabeth Janner, of College Station; sister Anna Mae Allen and her husband Jack Allen, of Wichita, Kan.; brother Bobby Paholek and his wife Margaret Paholek, of Bryan; sisters-in-law Gladys Paholek and Linda Paholek, both of Bryan; sister-in-law Joydell Janner of College Station; brother-in-law Calvin Janner and his wife Judy Janner, of Brenham; brother-in-law Gilbert Janner and his wife Kathryn Janner of Brenham; brother-in-law Otto Janner and his wife Chris Janner of Brenham; and many cherished nieces and nephews and dear friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Stella and John Paholek; brothers Johnny Paholek and James Paholek; and brother-in-law Eugene Janner.
Dottie was born in Bryan in 1943, and spent of most her life in Bryan-College Station. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph Catholic Church, and graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in 1961. That same year, she met Alvin, the love of her life at Wherman's Restaurant in Bryan and they married two years later. 2013 marks 50 years of marriage.
They lived briefly in Colorado Springs, Colo., later moved to Houston and started their family, then returned to Bryan-College Station in 1979.
Dottie retired from Texas A&M University's College of Medicine in 1998. She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Bryan and later, Peace Lutheran Church in College Station.
Dottie enjoyed simple pleasures like playing games with her close friends and extended family, attending Texas A&M football games with her husband and neighbors, and cuddling her dogs.
After she was diagnosed with cancer, she believed it was her purpose in life to spread God's joy to her doctors, nurses and fellow patients. She faced her illness with unusual courage, and never complained.
Dottie's family would like to thank all of the health care professionals who helped her in her fight against cancer.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Memorial Funeral Chapel-College Station, 2901 Texas Ave., South in College Station. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Peace Lutheran Church, 2201 Rio Grande Blvd in College Station. Interment will follow at Memorial Cemetery Aggie Field of Honor, 3800 Raymond Stotzer Parkway in College Station.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Hospice Brazos Valley where Dottie spent the last month of her life cared for by loving staff and volunteers.
