Darlene "Kay" Martin, 71, of Weaverville, ended her journey on Earth at her home at 3:45 p.m. Friday, May 2, 2014, after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. Born 71 years ago on December 13, 1942 in Elkhart, Indiana, Kay lived her life to the fullest and never regretted a moment. Her interests were numerous: puzzles, building structures, watching college football, fine food, travelling the world... She was one of the first female structural designers in the male-dominated Texas oil industry, raised two wonderful children on her own, never missed an opportunity to make someone laugh, and absolutely, positively did not let the word "no" get in her way. Left here to miss her are her wife, Darlene Dietz of Weaverville, children, Nicole Ogg of Weaverville and Marty Ogg of Hempstead, TX, sister, Denize Johnson of Spencer, TN, grandchildren, Chris, Michael, and Nicholas, extended family and friends too numerous to mention, and her beloved dachshund, Sadie. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Kay's name to Helpmate. A gathering to celebrate her life will be held Friday, May 16, 2014.
