Sammie Rambo (Whitten)

Sammie Ruth Whitten,age 81, of Sugar Land, TX, passed away on Saturday, January 25,2025.

She was born May 1,1943 in San Francisco,CA to Chaplain Albert Elvin Rambo and Effie Rice Rambo. She was born just minutes after her twin brother Albert Rice Rambo. The family moved to Texas in 1947, where she spent much of her early life living in Benchley, TX . Sammie was a proud descendant of a Texas pioneer family, the Henry’s , who settled in Robertson County in the 1830’s . She graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in Bryan, TX in 1961. She also met her future husband Tim Whitten in the fall of 1960 at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Bryan,Texas. After high school she went on to earn degrees from Sam Houston State University and later from Praire View A&M University. Early in her teaching career she taught in Wharton ISD and in Alief ISD teaching various subjects. However most of her career was spent working in Spring Branch ISD as an award winning teacher. She had an extensive career in education that spanned nearly 30 years. She and her husband Tim moved to Houston in 1970 and into their home in Sugar Land in 1973 where she lived until her death. When she wasn’t teaching she enjoyed spending time with her husband of 39 years Tim Whitten and her daughter Alison as well as many other friends and family. She especially enjoyed traveling with her husband Tim and Daughter Alison. They had many adventures together over the years logging many miles in their RV, travelling to Colorado, Utah, Arizona, Arkansas and all over Texas just to name a few. Sammie was also an avid reader and book lover. She also enjoyed sewing in her spare time . She was a very talented seamstress who could sew just about anything. She also loved all things cats. In her later years, she enjoyed spending time with her daughter Alison and Son In Law Charlie Saenz Jr. and Her two grandchildren, Kaylie and Terrence Saenz. As well as her step grandchildren Ashley,Justin, and Trent Saenz. She was also very active in her church. She was a member of multiple churches over the course of her life including Emmanuel Baptist Church in Bryan Texas as well as Sugar Land Baptist Church and Sugar Creek Baptist Church in Sugar Land. And in her later years she became a member of Sugar Land Methodist Church. Her faith was very important to her. Her love of God was apparent to all who knew her. She was a devout christian whose faith and trust in a loving god never waivered. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, and mother and a devoted friend to many who will be greatly missed.

Sammie is preceded in death by her parents Albert E. Rambo and Effie Rice Rambo and her brother Albert R. Rambo Ed.D. Uncle Sam Rice, and her husband of 39 years Tim C.Whitten. As well as her mother in law Catherine Batson and Father in law Anderson Batson and numerous other family members. She is survived by her daughter and only child Alison Saenz and Her Husband Charlie Saenz Jr. and their children Kaylie Saenz and Terrence Saenz, and her step grandchildren Justin,Ashley, and Trent Saenz and their significant others and all of their children. She is also survived by her nephew Timothy Whitten as well as other family and the many wonderful friends she had over the years.

A visitation for Sammie will be held Thursday, February 13, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at The Settegast-Kopf Company at Sugar Creek, 15015 Southwest Fwy, Sugar Land, TX 77478. A funeral service will occur Thursday, February 13, 2025 at 6:00 PM at The Settegast-Kopf Company@Sugar Creek, 15015 Southwest Freeway, Sugar Land, Texas 77478. A graveside service will occur Friday, February 14, 2025 from 11:30 AM at Bryan City Cemetery, 1111 N Texas Ave, Bryan, TX 77803.
