Vivian Curtis-Shearer Obituary

November 9, 1942 - September 6, 2016

Cecilia Shearer, 73, passed away on Tuesday, September 6th, at Scott & White hospital in College Station, Texas. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, Friday, September 9, at Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station. A celebration of her life will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, September 10, at Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station.

Cecilia was born to Earl and Mary Curtis in Bryan, Texas on November 9, 1942. She has been a resident of Brazos county for all of her 73 years. She graduated from Stephen F. Austin high school, Bryan, Texas in 1961. She was a member of the Lunch Bunch for her graduating class.

She worked at Baskin Robins for a number of years and later worked at Hobby Lobby. Those that knew her, know she only worked there for the discount, as you all know she loved making crafts. Particularly wooden ones that her late husband, George, would cut out for her to paint. In more recent years, her interests had shifted to quilting and knitting, which opened the door to new opportunities and friendships.

Cecilia and George spent their years together camping and enjoying all the beauty Texas had to offer. They loved spending Thanksgiving at Lake Somerville and watching the Cowboys and the Aggies play football. Cecilia adored her two dogs, Sullivan and Savannah as they provided her much company and unconditional love.

She loved spending time with all her amazing friends; going to birthday lunches, movies, malls, and farmer's markets.

Cecilia was a loving mother and grandmother and was so proud of her children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Jo Ann Curtis Frazier Laningham, and husband, George H. Shearer, Jr.

She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Peggy Curtis of Richmond, TX, brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Rita Curtis of Mobile, Alabama, son, Kelly Don Catalena of College Station, TX, son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Courtney Catalena of Cedar Park, TX, step daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Darrel Flippin of Franklin, TX, step daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Danny Tarver of Franklin, TX, and step son and daughter-in-law, George H. Shearer III and Julie of Milano, TX. She has eight grandchildren; Kelly Paul Catalena of Bryan, TX, Caroline and Chance Flippin of Franklin, TX, Cole Tarver of Franklin, TX, Anna and Nony Shearer of Bryan, TX, Elizabeth Smith of Huntsville, TX, Cosmo and Rocco Catalena of Cedar Park, TX, and Taylor Butters of Caldwell, TX. She also had many nieces and nephews.

The family of Cecilia Shearer would like to express their love and appreciation for all the support from their many, many friends and family members that have been so helpful to Cecilia in recent years, and now to her surviving family since her passing.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Aggieland Humane Society.

FROM LINDA GODWIN

She went into the hospital on Saturday and had major complications, possibly a reaction from a drug to stabilize her heart.  Yesterday she was somewhat conscious but unable to communicate clearly with all the apparatus on her. Sometime last night she went into total organ failure and the family was told this morning she wouldn't make it.  Her boys and daughter-in-law were with her when she passed away.  Sidney and myself were there in the waiting room and Linda Ann had been there earlier.  She also had a lot of other friends who came to show their love and support which brought some comfort to Billy and Kelley.

It's times like these that make us realize how important we are to one another.  I love you all and appreciate everyone of you from the bottom of my heart.

It's been a rough couple of days but we find comfort in knowing she is at peace.  I'm grateful for the friendship we shared and especially for the last few weeks when we had so much fun and many laughs doing water aerobics together.  Glad that Linda Ann, Delores, Ginger, Verda, Brenda and Madlyn were a part of that. Also thankful that Sidney and Linda Ann and myself got to be with her and her family as she completed her journey here on earth.

Thanks for the memories, my friend,

Linda

God Bless and Keep Cecilia and May we All Keep Her in our Hearts.

In Travis I sat behind her, and she would get so mad at me for my legs and feet getting in Her space.

I love the Travis school picture because I still remember her that Way

My Heart Goes Out to Her Family.

Somehow, I am always shocked to see one of our classmates obituary.  I know it is enevetable but it's still hard to take.  We simply don't have the words to express our sadness at this loss.  To lose a spouse or a child is so hard to accept or understand.  However, the family is not alone as we too, miss their spouse and mom.  We have our classmates and friends to comfort and support us in the comming days and that lifts our spirits.  We too, will pass this way but there is our Father waiting for us to join Him in eternal peace.  Our sincere prayers go to the family in their sorrow.

Blessings my dear friend and classmate,

Lynn Pridgen

My heart is heavy today learning of Cecilia's passing. It is always difficult to learn of another classmate's passing. Cecilia was a wonderful person and leaves behind a rich legacy of family and friends. Rest in peace Cecilia. You will be missed.😰

I know we're going to lose classmates and friends but it still hurts to see them go.   I take comfort in knowing about the Lord and know that, as they pass, they are in good hands and, as it's said, they are in a better place. May the Lord bless her and keep her she's gonna be missed..
